Maynard Dixon's sons have vivid memories of their remarkable father, as did two of Dixon's wives, the accomplished photographer Dorothea Lange and Edith Hamlin, and excellent artist in her own right.

The resultant book, The Thunderbird Remembered: Maynard Dixon, the Man and the Artist, is a family album brought to life. It is an extraordinary opportunity to hear the "voices" of the people who knew Dixon as well as anyone and better than most. Their words express the spirit of a husband, father and painter the way he was, while the illustrations offer intimate glimpses into the life of this extraordinary individual.

Text taken from the back of The Thunderbird Remembered by the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum.
